One Minute With Julie Boggs

Julie Boggs, Vice President, Membership Development at ConnexFM

Cats or Dogs?

Although I can’t resist a funny cat video, I’m a dog person—100 percent!

If you could listen to only one album for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Lake Street Dive’s 2014 album Bad Self Portraits

What’s a movie you consider a classic?

I’ve always been a fan of the suspense and horror movie genres, so I’d consider films such as Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window classics, but I also love films about powerful women and gravitate toward stories such as The Color Purple.

What’s your favorite social media?

Although I prefer connecting with people IRL (in real life), you’ll find me most often on LinkedIn.

What advice do you have for someone taking on a new role of leadership?

I’ve learned from many mentors and discovered for myself that it’s important to listen when you’re taking on a new role. You may be surprised by how much you can learn and the benefit to your success that comes from keeping your ears open.

Being new to the FM industry, how would you describe it in a few sentences?

Since joining the team, I’ve heard from many ConnexFM members that the industry delivers the unexpected daily. I also see that the industry is evolving, and new knowledge, skills, and abilities are being required of multi-site FMs as the industry continues to change.

What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve been told?

There was a member at the association where I used to work who demonstrated daily his willingness to help others. He is one of those people who seems to have an endless supply of time to give to others. I try to emulate this behavior and believe that you get out what you put in so I try to give whenever possible.

What skills have you found vital to your job?

Being new to ConnexFM and the industry, I’ve found that my collaboration skills have been helpful in making early progress toward our team’s goals. Additionally, perspective-taking is a crucial skill that I continue to use to match members’ needs with the support that ConnexFM provides and vice versa.

How do you create motivation for yourself and your team?

I find motivation in helping people. Whether I’m using my talents to help my colleagues achieve our shared goals, or supporting the success of one of our members, I work hard not only for myself but also for the people around me.

What about Connex attracted you to the position?

During my interview for the position, the ConnexFM team spoke highly of the people on staff and within the membership. They shared stories of the wonderful professionals with whom they get to interact each day. When I saw the love the staff had for the members, I knew I was in the right place.
